Afrocuban Music Camp

Come and enjoy a feast of drumming and singing located in the Hertfordshire countryside. Our base is an Activity Centre in Wymondley Woods and adjacent is a 20-acre conservation area with mature woods, stream, pond and grassland. There’s access and facilities for the disabled.










Content of study
The topics we’ll cover include Bata, Bembe, Guiro, Iyesa, Congo & Rumba plus songs.




Level required for attending workshops
There are separate classes for each level and some classes for all levels. There’ll be workshop sessions on Wednesday evening, all day Thursday, Friday & Saturday and on Sunday morning & afternoon.

Roots of Cuba
Who can take part?
The workshops are designed for adults. 16 to 18 years olds with drumming experience can also attend if accompanied by an adult (guardian) during the weekend.


Families
Families with children under 16 are also welcome. Please contact us for family rates.


There are a number of sports, games and outdoor activities available for children and young people. If there’s sufficient demand, we’ll be happy to offer music workshops as well.

Children under 14 need to be supervised at all times during the weekend. There are reduced rates for non-participating adults (guardians) attending purely to supervise children.

Camping option is available for families. Indoor accommodation for families is subject to availability and we can only confirm this nearer the time of the workshop.


Activity Centre
Indoor accommodation
The Centre has five dormitories, each sleeping 6-8 and furnished with bunk beds with storage facilities beneath. There are separate male & female showers/toilets.

Camping
The Centre is situated within a 4-acre campsite. So there’s plenty of room for you to put up your tent or yurt. There are separate male & female showers/toilets for campers.


There is a campfire site and an arena space for games.

Instruments
Some instruments will be provided but if you can, please bring your own from the following list: congas, bata, cajones, shekeres, cowbells, claves & drums sticks. You can specify which instruments you can bring on the registration form. Please bring ear-plugs.


Food
Vegetarian food is provided for all meals during the weekend. If you have any special dietary requirements / allergies please let us know on the registration form.


Free time
During your free time you can go for a walk in the woods or enjoy some of the on site activities.


Your help during the weekend
To help keep things tidy and ensure this workshop runs smoothly, we kindly ask all participants to help with certain household duties.

TIMES
Arrive from 6 pm on Wednesday to register and put up tent (if camping) etc.. Depart on Sunday by 5 pm. A full schedule will be sent nearer the time.

Early Bird Rate – £360 (for first 12 bookings)
Standard rate – £390

You can secure your place immediately by paying a non-refundable deposit of £100.
