COVID-19
We hope the situation has improved sufficiently in order for us to run module 3. We are taking bookings for this module but of course a full refund will be issued in the event it need to be postponed due to Govt advice.

It is also possible that there may be Govt restrictions on the numbers that can gather in a group, in which case, we would run the courses with the students that have booked in date order, until we reach the maximum permitted.

BACKGROUND:
The aim of the course is to provide all participants with a solid grounding in a wide range of percussion instruments and rhythms from Cuba, to enrich knowledge, ability and understanding of musical concepts and to develop skills of experienced players.

Participants become a closed group which individuals appreciate as it encourages their own development. This course is designed in a similar way to the Afrobrazilian Percussion Studies course in regard to its intensity of study and entrance level.

Please telephone us if you’d like to discuss your suitability for this course – 07833 377 432

The course has a structure of 6 modules of 5 days study at a time. Each module is approx. 3 to 4 months apart. We focus primarily on the traditional styles of drumming from Cuba including bata drums, cajones (boxes), congas (popular & folkloric), shekeres.

We also work with percussion instruments used in popular music including timbales, bongos, guiro & maracas.

As well as playing techniques we’ll learn the roles played by different instruments in an ensemble, study a range of music styles from Havana, Matanzas & Santiago, and work on soloing. We’ll also learn songs for a number of different styles. There is a lot of study on congas with exercises for developing independence & co-ordination.
